Muckrakers - Upton Sinclair Wrote The Jungle, which was an attack on the meat packing industry in Chicago. - Jacob Riis Wrote How the Other Side Lives which compared the lives of the poor to the lives of the wealthy through photography. - Lincoln Steffens He ran a series of muckraking articles (Twisted Days in St. Lous) which exposed corruption of big businesses. - Ida Tarbell Muckraker who went on to write The History of SStandard Oil Company and exposed corruption in Rockefeller's business, which ruinede much of his image. - Henry Demarest Lloyd He was an early muckraker of Chicago and in 1881 he wrote a series of articles attacking the practices of the Standard Oil Company and railroad businesses. - Theodore Dreiser He wrote The Financier and The Titan which exposed the ruthlessness of an industrialist.

The police enforced the law and the amendment banned the sale of alcohol in the United States - Frances Willard- She was the head of the Women's Christian Temperance Union. Women’s Suffrage - Seneca Falls Convention-- It took place on July 19-20, 1948 at the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Seneca Falls. It was a women’s rights convention led by Elizabeth Cady Stanton
- Susan B. Anthony- She dedicated her life to women’s suffrage. Her best friend was Elizabeth Cady Stanton. - Alice Paul - She believed that women and men should be equal partners in society. She made many outstanding political achievements for women in the 20th century - Carrie Chapman Catt- she was a suffrage movement leader. She is also the founder of the Leauge of Women Voters - NAWSA - National American Women Suffrage Association, it was founded by Carrie C. Cat. It was a way to gain democratic voting for ratification of the 19th amendment - 19th Amendment-1920 Congress voted that the 19th amendment would guarantee women the right to vote
